Weβve all got our stories from the global pandemic.
No one knows just how much you were affected quite like you do.
But itβs safe to say we were all loaded up with more brain-exploding life admin than ever.
In fact, the research confirms this. And it painted a pretty shocking picture.
In January 2022, Eggy conducted a national survey to understand how Aussies manage life admin, and how it affects them.
Firstly, this is what we know about the 400 people who completed the survey:
π₯ Around 71% were females and around 29% were males
π₯ The most common age group (20%) was 40-44 years
π₯ All eight Australian states and territories were represented
π₯ Most people (57%) were married
π₯ 75% of people had children or dependents
When we look at the responses from women only, the stats said:
π More than 4 in 5 women (85%) manage at least 70% of the householdβs life admin
π Some women (10%) do more than 30 life admin tasks every week
π 3 in 5 women (59%) spend 6 hours or more on life admin every week
π 4 out of 5 women (79%) say that managing life admin negatively affects their mental health
π 3 out of 5 women (59%) are doing more life admin tasks now than they were two years ago
And, when we isolate the results of mothers only, this is what was found:
π Nearly 2 out of 3 mothers (65%) say theyβre responsible for 90-100% of the life admin in their household
π Half (49%) of mothers do 6-15 life admin tasks per week but some mothers (11%) do more than 30 life admin tasks per week
π 3 in 5 mothers (64%) spend 6 hours or more on life admin every week while a third (33%) of mothers spend more than 10 hours per week on managing life admin
π 4 out of 5 mothers (83%) say that managing life admin negatively affects their mental health
π 3 out of 5 mothers (59%) are doing more life admin tasks now than they were two years ago
So what? What are the key takeaways from this national survey?
π€― Life admin is hurting us - in particular, it's causing stress and anxiety.
π Managing life admin is only getting worse with time.
πββοΈ The females in the household are doing the bulk of the life admin.
πͺ We need to (and can) do something about it.
